The victim was identified as Hemavathi (28) of Chengalpattu. She had married Jaganathan, who works in the Chengalpattu fish market, nine years ago and they have an eight-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son. The police said Jaganathan was addicted to alcohol, and would quarrel with his wife. After yet another quarrel on Thursday night, Hemavathi was found hanging in their house. Jaganathan took down the body, changed her clothes and laid her on the floor. He told her parents in Achurapakkam that she died in sleep due to heart attack, and made the arrangements for the funeral. However, Hemavathi’s parents asked and found out from their grandchildren that she killed herself after being attacked by Jaganathan. Following this, her father Kannan filed a complaint at the Chengalpattu town police station. The police arrived at the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. They have detained Jaganathan for inquiry.
