CHENNAI: Police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old man under the Protection of Children under the Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for impregnating a minor girl after promising to marry her in Ramapuram.

The issue came to light recently when the 17-year-old girl delivered a child at a hospital on September 20. The hospital authorities informed the police after which a case was registered.

The arrested man was identified as Ambrose, a canteen worker at a complex housing IT company in Ramapuram, where the girl was working in a shop.

Ambrose, who got into a relationship with the girl, impregnated her.

Two weeks ago, the girl was taken to a hospital, where it was found that she was nine months pregnant and she subsequently delivered a child. Police arrested Ambrose for cheating the girl and for impregnating a minor. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
