“A low-pressure area that has formed between the Indian Ocean and adjoining the southwest Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka is expected to intensify into a depression by April 27. It is likely to move north-westwards towards Tamil Nadu coast and would intensify into a cyclonic storm by April 29,” said RMC director N Pudiyavarasan.

Till 8.30 am on Tuesday, several districts including Salem, Theni, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Tirunelveli, Dindigul and Coimbatore received heavy to moderate rain. While Attur in Salem received the highest quantum of 10 cm, Periyakulam in Theni recorded 6 cm.

A few places in the State may experience a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds up to a speed of 40-50 kmph.

However, Chennai will continue to have a dry spell and the sky will be partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 36 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius respectively.
