The Abhiramapuram police arrested the couple following a complaint from Lucas Curser (34), the German consulate officer, who alleged that the couple had submitted a forged document to obtain a German visa. The police then went to the Consulate and picked up PS Saji Paul (43) and his wife Shiny Saji Paul, who are natives of Eranakulam district in Kerala.

Police said the couple who had come to attend a visa interview to Germany had submitted a fake job experience certificate showing that they worked in a marine seafood export firm at Eranakulam for 14 years. The couple was later arrested and remanded to Judicial custody.
