The students have intensified their agitation with a hunger strike and announced that the agitation would continue until a representative from the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development visited the campus for talks. In a representation to the Union HRD Minister, the students said: “We raised the problems with regard to infrastructure facilities and basic amenities several times, but the Director S K Pandy neglected our genuine demands.”

NIT was functioning here from July, 2010, from its makeshift location, Aringnar Anna Government Arts College at Nehru Nagar in Karaikal. Permanent campus construction works commenced only in 2013 and are yet to be completed.
