CHENNAI: A 42-year-old man, an autorickshaw driver allegedly murdered his friend in a drunken brawl at his residence in Tiruverkadu and stayed with the body for two days, not knowing what to do.

Police recovered the decomposed body on Friday after the man surrendered before a court in Ambattur.

The accused has been identified as S Murugan, a resident of J J Nagar in Tiruverkadu. Investigations revealed that Murugan owned a house there and had left his house for rent to his friend, K Suresh, also an autorickshaw driver.

On Wednesday night, the two of them were boozing when Murugan had demanded rental dues from his friend.

The conversation turned into an argument and the two of them had engaged in a brawl. In the melee, Murugan picked up a hammer and smashed Suresh’s face in an inebriated state.

Both of them fell unconscious. Only on waking up the next day, Murugan had realised that he had murdered his friend and after waiting for two days, he surrendered before the court on Friday evening. Tiruverkadu Police booked a case of murder against Murugan and he was sent to judicial custody.
