ID cards issued for sanitary workers in Mahabalipuram

The police have issued photo identity cards for the sanitary workers in Mahabalipuram, who are involved in cleaning process of the historic town, ahead of the Modi-Xi Jinping meet.

Beefing up the security measures, the police have issued photo ID cards with QR code for the sanitary workers who are involved in the cleaning process of the temple town. Sources said that hundreds of workers from Villupuram, Thoothukudi, Thanjavur, Bihar and Jharkhand are staying in Mahabalipuram and are involved in the work.


The workers are advised to be present with the ID card all the time, said sources. The workers would be allowed to enter their work premises only after the scanning of the QR code, they added.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to hold talks in Mahabalipuram between October 11 and 13. Following this, the security has been tightened in Mahabalipuram and the officials have also decided to suspend the seashore activities fromOctober 4.
