According to Aarthi Ganesh, trustee of Vael’s Billabong High International School in the city, which imparts ICSE education said that her school received 500 applications for about 150 seats in Lower Kindergarten (LKG) this year.
“Several parents have started admitting their students in the ICSE stream as it provides holistic education with importance to activity based learning. Year on year we see the interest level among parents for ICSE increasing,” she said. The newly started Christwood school at Ponmar, near Tambaram has received about 75 applications for 25 seats in LKG.
Explaining about the advantages of ICSE stream, S. Alfred Devaprasad, chief executive officer of Christwood school said that apart from the rigour in Mathematics and Science it also provides activity based and application oriented learning.
“The ICSE stream has lot of room for creativity and provides more emphasis to develop student’s language skill. It also offers opportunity for innovation, which has made parents look at the system for admitting their child.
ICSE schools have fewer seats as we don’t look at quantity but quality,” he said, adding that while Bengaluru has been one of the cities in India where more parents prefer to admit their child in ICSE, the trend has been picking up very recently in Chennai.
