Heroin, methamphetamine seized in Pallikaranai

In a major haul of drugs, the Pallikaranai police seized 7 kg of methamphetamine from a man and 40 grams of heroin from another gang of three men.

Raja (32) of Erukkanchery was secured by a special team of police based on a tip-off from Kovilambakkam-Ichangadu junction on Monday night.

As much as 7 kg of methamphetamine was seized from him. He was handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths for further investigation.

The team also secured a trio from West Bengal in possession of heroin and seized 40 grams from them. They were identified as Shabir Ahmed (28), Jameel (19) and Dhurul Islam (25). Based on the information that the trio supplies heroin at Pudhu Nagar bus stand in Mesavakkam, the police secured them and heroin worth Rs 5 lakh was seized from them.

Investigations revealed that the trio reached the city a few months ago to work as construction labourers. Later, they started peddling ganja and recently shifted to heroin, the police said.

They were booked under the NDPS Act and remanded in judicial custody.
