HC seeks report on sending back workers

The Madras High Court directed the State and Centre to filed a detailed report regarding the action taken to transport guest workers to their hometowns.

Responding to a plea seeking details of workers staying in government-run shelter homes, the government counsel submitted that of the 2.43 lakh registered migrant workers, 1,00,799 were sent back at government cost. Recording it, a division bench comprising Justice M Sathayanarayanan and Justice Anita Sumanth observed that voluntary agencies should also come forward to enable their safe transport. The plea was posted to May 26 for further hearing.
