AIADMK, in 2014, had handed over the golden armour to adorn the statue of Muthuramalinga Thevar at Pasumpon. The armour weighed 13 kilograms and the cost was estimated at Rs.3.25 crores. After the Thevar Jayanti celebration on October 30 every year, the golden armour is placed in the lockers of Bank of India at its Anna Nagar Branch in Madurai. The account of the locker is jointly held by O Panneer Selvam and Meenal Natarajan, a niece of Thevar.

The golden armour can be taken out only if Panneer Selvam comes in person. Once it is taken out of the locker, it would be handed over to the kin of Thevar. As the Thevar Jayanti is on October 30, Panneerselvam visited the bank much before the functioning hours, on Tuesday, and took out the armour. Then it was shifted into the car of Thevar’s kin and taken to Pasumpon where it would adorn the Thevar’s statue.

144 for Thevar Jayanti

Meanwhile, Ramanthapuram District administration had promulgated emergency orders under section 144 from October 25 to 31 as two major functions such as birth anniversary of Marudhu brothers and Muthuramalinga Thevar are to be celebrated on October 27 and October 30 respectively. No political meetings would be allowed during the days.

Also not more than five people will be allowed to gather at a place without prior permission. Liquor shops too would remain closed from October 27 to 30 in the neighbouring districts of Sivagangai and Madurai.
