Preethi, a resident of Saidapet, was returning home around 9 pm and when two men on a bike tried to snatch her mobile phone near Saidapet Metro station. She lost balance and fell and was dragged for more than 15 feet. But the snatchers escaped with the mobile phone.

However, motorist T Vigneshwaran chased the duo on his two-wheeler and intercepted them near T Nagar bus stand. While he secured one of them, passersby caught the other person who tried to escape. Both were handed over to the Mambalam police.

The accused – Naveen and Nirmal – were later handed over to the Saidapet police station. Preethi sustained minor injuries in the incident. Saidapet MLA and DMK leader Ma Subramanian congratulated Vigneshwaran and gifted him a wristwatch.
