The Madras High Court ordered the state government to explain in detail the relief measures taken after the recent devastating rains

The Madras High Court’s move follows lawyer Suryaprakasam filing a petition in the High Court seeking an order to the state government to form committees with junior level officers and representatives of NGOs to ensure proper distribution of relief for rain affected victims. This follows reports that relief materials were being hijacked by vested interests due to lack of coordination by the state government.

When the matter came before justice M. M. Santosh, the government representative stated that relief work was being undertaken properly and there was no disruption as reported.

Justice Santosh then ordered the chief government lawyer to appear in person on Friday and give detailed explanation of relief work undertaken by the state government.
