It all started after one bike rider, identified as Krishnamoorthy of Sithnadimadam, was hit by a tanker lorry and suffered minor injuries. Following this, the residents overpowered the tanker driver. When the police team sub-inspector Palani and his driver Manivannan arrived at the spot, the people were allegedly beating up tanker driver Muruganandam and police tried to pacify them and asked them to release the driver.

This infuriated the mob they refused to release the driver. Then the police said that both sides should go to the police station and insisted that Krishnamoorthy should get into the police jeep. Seeing this, a couple of men brought kerosene bottles and doused themselves with it besides pouring the fuel on two policemen.

They then threaten to set themselves on fire and also set cops on fire. Shocked police were not sure of the next action. The situation was reported to the station and more police personnel reached the spot and after a marathon negotiation, the cops managed to secure the release of tanker driver. Police are now looking for the two who poured fuel on SI and his driver.
