Forest officials arrest 4 for poisoning tiger in Kodaikanal hill

Forest officials have arrested four persons on the charges of poisoning a tiger at Pazhamputhur village situated in upper Kodaikanal Hills, Dindigul district.

After a detailed investigation conducted by two special teams,  Viswanathan, Poomari Anandan, Vijayarajan and Muthukrishnan, all hailing from Pazhamputhur village were arrested under the Wildlife  Protection Act, 1972, forest officials said today.

A search is going on to nab one more person identified as Anbumani in this connection.

An adult male tiger that strayed into the village from the nearby dense forest had mauled a horse owned by Viswanathan on February 6. Upset over this, Viswanathan along with his relatives, sprayed a toxic pesticide Carbofuran on the carcass of the horse. The big cat which came again to the village to feed on the horse carcass died of poisoning on February 10.

The post-mortem report revealed that Carbofuran caused the death of tiger.
