CHENNAI: A 22-year-old youth from Hyderabad who was booked for performing bike stunts on Anna Salai a month ago, distributed road safety awareness pamphlets to motorists on the same arterial road near Teynampet on Monday.

The youth’s community service was part of the conditions imposed by the Madras High Court while granting anticipatory bail to him on September 27.

Apart from this, the court also required the youth to spend time at the trauma ward in the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

City police said that the youth, Alex Binoy Gotla, is required to spend time at the traffic junction in Teynampet for an hour in the morning and evening, every Monday for three weeks. The youth distributed pamphlets with awareness messages about drunk driving, reckless driving, and the necessity of wearing seat belts and helmets while driving.

Advocate Ramachandran representing Alex said that on the other days, except on Sunday, he will spend time at RGGGH’s trauma ward until noon and assist the duty doctors.

Chennai Police had arrested at least five youths in connection with bike stunts on Anna Salai, including Alex. A video of these youngsters’ dangerous stunts went viral on social media, in which they were seen riding dangerously (wheeling) near Teynampet police station, moving towards Anna Flyover.
