From auto drivers to owners of high end models like BMW Rajini fans are a driven lot. Srinivasan Jayaseelan, who works in the airline industry has got his Alto wrapped in Rajini’s poster, for which he spent close to Rs 25,000. “I have been a Rajini fan for the past thirty years and this is the least that I can do to show my love. The bonnet of the car has the poster of Kabali and the sides too have pictures of Rajini donning his 80s look in the movie. I got it done from a workshop in West Mambalam,” says Srinivasan, adding that these stickers are removable. He plans to take it off only after Kabali is out of the theatres.
Luxury car owners do not mind getting the stickers on their pricey cars. Mathi, who owns GK Cinema theatre in Porur recently got his BMW customised. “It was my son Surya’s idea to get the car modified as he is a huge Rajini fan. The car also helps with the publicity for our business.” But most of the fans just do it for the love of the Superstar.
Akram Malik has his Nissan GT-R done exclusively for the Kabali release. “I had to spend Rs 80,000 for doing the design and it is all worth it as my family has been a Rajini fan. The bonnet has a sticker of Kabali , while the sides are covered with the pencil sketches of characters played by Rajini over the years,” says Akram, who plans to watch the movie at Albert theatre with 40 other people. Be it auto, bike or a car, these fans have covered their vehicles with specialised Kabali stickers.
Saidhai Ravi is one of the oldest member of the Rajinikanth fan club and has his auto covered with Rajini stickers and he also helps people customise their vehicles. Modifying is not cheap and one has to shell out a minimum of Rs 25,000. “The starting price is Rs 25,000 and it can go upto Rs 1,50,000. It all depends on the square inches,” says Tanuj Gaind of Modern Beauty Cars. He says many fans have come forward to give their vehicles a different look. “We recently overhauled the look of a car that cost Rs 60,000. Covering the bonnet alone cost Rs 8,000. We have done more than 10 cars in two weeks.”
