According to sources, Naseera Begam (2), daughter of Shahul Hameed of Ayyampettai in the district, was suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting on Sunday night. So, the parents immediately took the baby to a private hospital in VOC Nagar. Despite the treatment, the condition of the baby became worse and the doctors at the private hospital referred the infant to the Raja Mirasdar GH in Thanjavur for advanced treatment.

However, the baby died after a while in the general hospital. The relatives took the body of the child to a private hospital where they gave her treatment. It was alleged that a wrong administration of medicine led to the death of the baby. The parents said that the nurse was administering an injection while talking to someone over mobile phone.

Demanding action against the hospital and the nurse, they gheraoed the hospital on Tuesday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ilango and Inspector Chittybabu rushed to the spot and held enquiries with the relatives of the baby. Later, they dispersed from the spot.
