Enraged over getting slapped, construction worker murders co-worker with iron rod

On October 21, after work, Rajendran had asked Sukumar to keep the sleeping area clean, which led to an argument between them.

CHENNAI: Police on Tuesday arrested Sukumar (28) a construction labourer, for the murder of his co-worker M Rajendran (33) of Tiruvannamalai, after a drunken argument in Triplicane. Rajendran was a mason and staying in the under-construction site in the area.

On October 21, after work, Rajendran had asked Sukumar to keep the sleeping area clean, which led to an argument between them.

The next day, the duo had consumed alcohol at noon and returned to work when an argument broke out between them again. In the melee, Rajendran allegedly slapped Sukumar. Enraged by this, Sukumar took an iron rod and assaulted Rajendran and fled the scene. Ice House Police registered a case and arrested Sukumar on Tuesday.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
