According to a Chennai Corporation source, a re-tender has been floated inviting the bidders to take part in the bidding process. “Earlier in October 2019, a tender was floated to construct the rail over bridge at the level crossing. We have floated re-tender due to administrative reasons,”an official said.

As per the tender document, the total length of the bridge would be around 750 metres. The bridge would be along with the Southern Railway as the Chennai Corporation would complete works on its land. The civic body has allocated Rs 27.48 crore to build the new bridge. Apart from this, Southern Railway would spend for completing the workson its land.

The old bridge was closed for traffic and the vehicles are being diverted towards Basin Bridge at Elephant Gate level crossing as the old bridge was found weak.

The civic body also has plans to construct a new bridge at Basin Bridge level crossing so that the level crossing would have two bridges to accommodate more vehicles.
