Elderly woman beggar injured on road found in possession of Rs 14,500

More than Rs 14,000 was found in the cloth bags of a woman beggar who met with an accident near Sriperumbudur on Thursday. The doctors at the government hospital where she was admitted said the money would be returned to her when she is discharged.

The Sriperumbudur police who were on patrol at the Mannur junction found a 75-year-old woman lying on the road with injuries on her leg. The police found that the woman was a beggar and some unidentified vehicle had hit her and went without stopping. Soon, the woman was taken to the Sriperumbudur government hospital on an ambulance and admitted for treatment.


When they checked the cloth bags of the woman, the hospital staff noticed there were many coins and currency notes. When counted, the staff found there was Rs 14,500. The woman was shifted to the Chengalpattu government hospital for treatment. The hospital officials said the whole money would be returned to the woman when she gets discharged.
