Duo on bike snatches 11-sovereign gold chain from woman in Perumbakkam

Reports stated that, Pushpa was walking home from nearby Murugan temple when the duo, on a two-wheeler and wearing helmets, asked her for directions before snatching the chain.

CHENNAI: Unidentified men snatched an 11-sovereign gold chain from a woman in Perumbakkam on Tuesday.

According to police, Pushpa (41), a resident of Nukampalaiyam in Perumbakkam, was walking home after visiting the Murugan temple in the locality at night when two men on a motorbike approached her in the pretext of asking for directions. The men, both of whom were wearing helmets, snatched Pushpa’s chain, when she was explaining how to get to the address, and fled the spot.

Police said Pushpa tried to put up a fight but the duo pushed her away and fled. The Perumbakkam police have registered a case against unidentified men based on Pushpa’s complaint. Police are combing CCTV footage to catch the chain-snatchers.

Chain snatchers have been on a prowl in Perumbakkam area over the past two months, creating a lot of anxious moments among residents here.
