DT Next Impact: MLA provides Rs 25 lakh for Tambaram library

Following a report in this newspaper on the dilapidated condition of the Tambaram Public Library that appeared on November 30, Tambaram MLA S R Raja visited the library on Thursday and allocated Rs 25 lakh for renovating the library building.

The MLA paid a visit to the library and inquired with those in charge of the premises about their demands and the steps necessary to ensure that public were not put to inconvenience while visiting the library. With the influx of funds, library officials said that readers would be provided a proper sitting to read among other amenities. He also ordered the library staff to replace the old cement flooring with tiles, according to library officials. Work on the same is expected to begin soon. 

The Tambaram Government Public Library, which was established in 1957, is in a dilapidated condition as it had not been renovated and painted for more than 10 years. Moreover, the library is s hidden by roadside shops, due to which many people do not even know that a library is functioning there. The books are also not being updated frequently.
