The arrested was identified as Shankar (40), husband of Sathya, with whom the victim’s husband allegedly had an illicit affair. Shankar believed that the victim, Shakeela, wife of Sheik, a tailor, encouraged the illicit relationship between her husband and his wife. When Shakeela was going out of her house in Selliamman Nagar, Shankar, in an inebriated state, attacked her with a sickle. The woman suffered deep cut on her right hand and four fingers of her left hand were chopped off, police said. She has been admitted to Stanley Hospital. Police traced Shankar to Sholavaram on Sunday and arrested him.
