A 1986-batch officer, Ashutosh Shukla has previously been Chennai Police Commissioner and also as the ADGP in charge of the Prisons Department. During Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission had appointed him as the DGP (Elections). However, within days of the election process formally got over, the senior officer, who was heading the police force on all poll-related works, was shunted out as the special officer at the refugee camp in Mandapam – widely considered to be a punishment post. Meanwhile, DGP JK Tripathy has ordered the transfer of about 50 police officers in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police across the State.
