CHENNAI: Customs officials recovered gold worth Rs 1.5 crores which was hidden inside the restroom of the flight at the Chennai airport on Monday.

On Monday morning, the staff who were cleaning the Indigo Airlines flight which arrived from Abu Dhabi found there was a package hidden inside the flush tank of the toilet. Soon they informed the airport manager and then the bomb squad who arrived at the spot checked the package using a metal detector and when opened the package found it had gold bars inside it. Later, the gold was handed to the customs officials and they found the gold weighing about 2.4 kgs and valued over 1.5 cores.

The same flight was supposed to depart to Hyderabad on the domestic run so the officials believed that another smuggler who had booked the ticket as a domestic passenger was scheduled to take the gold from the toilet before he got down in Hyderabad. The customs team recovered the gold and further investigation is on to nab the people behind this.
