Our humble curd rice or thayir sadam has got a major boost on global culinary platform, thanks to Chennai born host, chef and author Padma Lakshmi.

She calls it yogurt rice though! Padma Lakshmi’s appearance on Ellen Degeneres’ show made Tamilians across the world proud as she picked curd rice as her dish to prepare for the show, that was telecast on Wednesday. When Ellen invited her to ‘cook up some fun’, Padma decided to make the popular dish from her hometown. She also did a good job of teaching Ellen how to make the curd rice using her hands, despite the latter’s much disapproving look. “But what about spoons,” Ellen was seen asking Padma with a puzzled expression. Interestingly, the curd in the thayir saadam was vegan, keeping to Ellen’s dietary requirements. So what was Ellen’s verdict? “It’s so good, it’s sooo peppery.” Well, we love it like that only!
