The accused, identified as C John Michael (33) of Poonamallee and Shobana (28), were remanded in judicial custody. The police said that the victim, R Prabakar (29) of Kodambakkam, runs a computer sales and service firm. He reportedly approached the couple for a loan of Rs 2 crore to develop his business and gave them Rs 20 lakh and eight laptops, worth 3.31 lakh, as surety. However, as the couple failed to fulfil their promise and also refused to return the money, Prabakar approached the police and the couple was arrested after investigation.
