In January, the civic body launched the version for Android users, where the residents of the city can complain about civic issues in their localities using their smartphone.

The idea behind the app was to speed up the redressal process. The public may use the app to lodge complaints on maintenance of streetlights, garbage clearance, repair of roads, storm water drains maintenance and other civic issues in their locality.

The complaints received through the app will be forwarded to the respective departments and once action has been taken, the complainant will be informed. The app will also have statistics and data related to Smart Cities project, starting from digital class rooms to Corporation parks.

The Chennai Smart City website will be a common platform for the initiatives under its umbrella. According to the Corporation, following the launch of the app in January, 1,191 complaints were registered through this medium.
