Chennai
A Chennai Corporation official said that the civic body has launched Park Adoption Scheme for Urban Landscape Maintenance and Improvement (Pasumai). Under the initiative, private companies, organisations, residents’ welfare associations and the public can adopt and maintain parks, road centre medians, traffic islands and roadside parks under the limits of Chennai Corporation for free. “Organisations and companies willing to adopt the parks can put up their name boards at the parks, centre medians and other places that they maintain. For those who are interested to adopt and maintain the parks, Chennai Corporation has waived off the annual adoption fee of Rs 100 per sqm of park and the refundable caution deposit of Rs 50,000,” Meghanatha Reddy, Deputy Commissioner (works – in-charge), said.
The civic body has rebranded and made park adoption attractive, he added. “All that is required is passion and resources to adopt a park,” said the official in a social media post.
The civic body has plans to increase the number of parks to more than 1,000 from the present number of 675. “Processes have already commenced to create 350 new parks,” G Prakash, Chennai Corporation Commissioner, had said recently.
