According to Chennai Corporation data, 63,525 Form-6 applications were received at special camps conducted across the city on November 21 and November 22.

Form-6 is for including one’s name in the voters’ list.

“We have never received so many applications for name inclusion on special camps before. Representatives of political parties would have identified new voters and made them apply at the camps. With these many applications, the number of voters and first-time voters will increase this year,” a Chennai Corporation official said.

The applications were received from 16 assembly constituencies in Chennai district.

Among the 16 constituencies, the highest number of Form-6 applications were received from Perambur, which had 5,877 applications. Virugambakkam constituency received 5,571.

It may be noted that the Corporation received less than 14,000 applications between February, when the final voters’ list for the previous year was released and November, when the draft electoral roll was released.

Meanwhile, as many as 7,283 applications (Form-8) were received to make corrections and 10,367 applications (Form-8A) were received for address change. Also, 1,443 applications were received for deleting the names from the electoral roll.

In total, 82,618 applications were received on two days at the special camps.

The civic body will conduct special camps on December 12 and December 13. As per the draft electoral roll released on November 16, the 16 assembly constituencies have more than 39.40 lakh voters.

“After the scrutiny of the applications received, the final voters’ list will be released in January or February,” the official said.
