Conductor falls from bus, dies

A 38-year-old conductor fell off a government bus and died near Melmaruvathur, as the driver switched open the front door before stopping the vehicle, on Saturday morning.

When the SETC bus from Kumbakonam to Chennai reached Melmaruvathur, conductor Vairam of Thanjavur, asked the driver to stop the bus for passengers to get down. The driver pressed the switch to open the door even before it halted.


Vairam, who was standing on the steps, lost balance and fell off and suffered grievous injuries. He was taken to Chengalpattu government hospital and then to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.


However, he was declared brought dead. The body was sent for autopsy.
