Commercial Tax Officer stabbed on office premises

In a shocking incident, a Commercial Tax Officer was stabbed by an unidentified assailant at the Commercial Tax building in full public view at Thousand Lights on January 10.

The police are yet to get any leads on the attacker as the building did not have CCTV facility. Thangavel (56), a Commercial Tax Officer of the Poonamalle (Group 2) of Enforcement Wing was at the reception area when an unidentified man stabbed him in his stomach and fled. The incident took place at 12.10 pm. Thangavel, a resident of Dhanasekharan Street in West Mambalam was rushed to Apollo Hospitals. “He was stabbed in the stomach and is undergoing surgery. A police team has begun investigation to nab the accused,” said a senior police official. 

“Since Thangavel worked on a few sensitive cases, we are probing to find out if anyone had previous enmity toward him. It is suspected that someone who was familiar with him has carried out the attack,” he said.  The police claim that though there were witnesses, no one has come forward to record what happened. Besides, the government building did not have CCTV surveillance.
