College student hacked to death by robbery gang

Sholavaram police have launched a hunt for an eight-member gang who hacked a college student to death before robbing him and his friends of phones, bikes and cash on a lake bed on Thursday night.

The deceased Akhilesh (20) of Perambur along with his five other friends reached Sholavaram lake on Thursday afternoon on three bikes and were consuming liquor after taking a bath.

After the sunset, an eight-member gang surrounded them and robbed them of phones and cash before attacking them. While the youngsters fled the spot leaving the valuables behind, Akhilesh was found dead on the lake bed on Friday morning.

Police suspect that he could have died in the attack by the robbery gang and have launched a hunt for him.
