Collect demand cards for property tax at zonal offices

Property tax demand cards for assessees of the Greater Chennai Corporation can be collected at the zonal offices for payment of property tax within the city limits.

The demand cards are for the assessees of the Corporation for the period between 2018-19 to 2023-24, which have been sent to the concerned zonal offices. A statement by the Corporation added that necessary instructions have been given to the zonal officers and assistant revenue officers for the issuance of these cards. 

Under the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919, property Tax cards should be supplied to  the property tax assesses and it is the demand for property tax. 

The Corporation has requested the assessees to collect the demand cards at the concerned offices and pay the property tax – which is collected twice a year. 

For the Greater Chennai Corporation, property tax collection is one of the main sources of revenue. For the fiscal year of 2017-18, the civic body collected Rs 720 crores in property tax, thanks to a series of special camps conducted by the Corporation, to bring about an augmentation of their revenue.
