According to Corporation sources, the Chief Minister will also flag off the vehicles procured to carry out the conservancy works from the Island Grounds. “Agreements will also be handed over to the private firms at the event,” the sources said.

Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Adyar, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur have been handed over to a joint venture of a Spanish firm and Indian firm for the garbage removal.

However, the joint venture is likely to commence the operations in Adyar zone and has decided to start conservancy works in other zones in a phased manner.

It may be noted that the Corporation has estimated to spend Rs 447 crore per year to privatise conservancy works in the seven zones. Of the total 5,400 tonnes of garbage generated in the city every day, the seven zones amount around 3,300 tonnes.

Meanwhile, the civic body is in a financial negotiation with Ramky Enviro Engineers, who would take over conservancy works in Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram and Ambattur zones
