“Women’s organisations in the state are looking forward to the revival of the Tamil Nadu State Women’s Commission,” the letter says, “with a proactive chair who is proven to be sensitive to gender issues, and has concretely contributed towards women’s empowerment. We envision the Commission as a dynamic and efficient body, committed to guaranteeing the rights of women in Tamil Nadu. We hope the Commission will work in consultation with civil society, especially women’s organisations, in the state.”

The appeal has 17 signatories from 12 organisations, and several individuals working in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment. The petition can be accessed at Change.org.
