City college students held for clash in train

Nine Pachaiyappa’s College students were arrested following a clash in a train on Monday with Presidency College students.

About 30 Pachaiyappa’s College students and 20 Presidency College students had a quarrel in a local train. When the train stopped at Nemilichery station a gang of 20 persons began to attack Presidency College students and some other passengers in the train with sickles, stones, etc. Fourteen persons sustained severe injuries, and 11 of them were from the Presidency College. In another incident involving the same college students, a MTC conductor and driver were attacked for asking students to buy tickets. In retaliation, the MTC crew stopped their buses on the roads and staged a dharna. When a bus plying between Poonamallee and Parry’s (Route No. 53E) reached to Pachaiyappa’s  College, a group of 10 students got into the bus and started singing and drumming against the sides of the the bus.
