Christians take out processions to celebrate Palm Sunday in city

Christians celebrated Palm Sunday to mark the commencement of the Holy Week in the city. The week denotes the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Special prayers were held in churches across the city on Sunday.

Palm Sunday, denotes the day on which the people of Jerusalem welcomed Jesus Christ into their city by singing hymns and carrying small palm branches after he fasted for forty days. To commemorate the event, Christians carry palm leaves and take out a processions in churches. 

Christian took out the Palm Sunday procession in San Thome Basilica in Mylapore, all the major Cathedrals and churches in Chennai. 

Palm Sunday is followed by Maundy Thursday, the day on which Jesus Christ took the last supper with his disciples. After that, comes Good Friday which marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The Holy week will culminate with Easter Sunday and Christians will celebrate the feast of Jesus’s resurrection.
