The Chief Minister left for her retreat in the Nilgris even as some opposition party leaders got into election mode and travelled to many parts of the state, in an attempt to meet people and also strengthen their party.

Jayalalithaa left for Kodanad on October 14, 18 months after her previous visit. It was also her first visit after her imprisonment in Bengaluru in the disproportionate assets case. Her trips to Kodanad are often criticised by the opposition parties but she has always maintained that she attends to all work from wherever she is.

During this visit she inaugurated several government schemes and kept abreast of all happenings, including the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen and sought their release.

Her return to Chennai will once again turn the focus of all to the forthcoming Assembly elections and alliances.
