Chennai-Doha flight makes emergency landing due to snag

A Qatar Airways flight headed to Doha was forced to turn around and land in Chennai after smoke emanated from the tail of the flight within a few minutes after take-off in the wee hours of Saturday. The Chennai-Doha flight departed from Chennai airport at 1 am with 121 passengers and seven crew members.

When the flight was mid-air, the pilot noticed smoke from the tail of the aircraft. Immediately, he contacted the Chennai Air Traffic Control and sought permission for an emergency landing. The flight landed in Chennai airport around 1.50 am and the passengers were made to stay in the waiting hall. The aeronautical engineers tried to rectify the fault, but their efforts were in vain. Later, the passengers were shifted to Indigo airlines flight which departed to Doha via Hyderabad at 6 am.
