Chennai Metro begins switchover to foot-operated elevators

To promote healthy practice while using elevators in the wake of virus threat, Chennai Metro Rail has come up with an ingenious way to avoid hand contact with the elevator buttons by providing a foot-operated lift mechanism.

“It is one of a kind prototype and CMRL takes the lead to be the first metro rail in India to come up with this prototype, installed at its administrative building at Koyambedu,” it said in a statement adding that CMRL plans to implement this in all lifts at its Metro stations once it resumes operations. It said CMRL is also in the process of studying various contactless optional measures for the benefit of its passengers.
