Chennai Corporation to distribute reusable masks

The Greater Chennai Corporation will distribute reusable face masks to residents in containment zones and also in densely populated localities from Tuesday.

During a meeting with Health Secretary Beela Rajesh and Corporation Commissioner G Prakash, special officer for COVID-19 control J Radhakrishnan instructed the civic body to distribute cloth masks along with essential items and kabasura kudineer.

A decision was also taken to quarantine the houses and buildings of affected persons rather than sealing the entire street in containment zones.

“One or two houses near the affected persons’ houses only will be announced as containment zones. Field officials, along with the members of NGOs, should identify aged persons and also those with comorbid conditions such as heart diseases, diabetes, hypertension. Those with cold, fever and cough should also be identified and moved to hospitals or COVID care centres,” a Corporation press release said.

So far, 1,064 persons have been shifted to the care centres and 115 persons have been sent to for home isolation. “Officials will conduct inspections at the COVID care centres every day and shift patients to the hospitals if they require medical care,” the release added.
