Burglars target houses, mutt on OMR, hunt on

Unidentified burglars looted gold ornaments, sliver items and cash from two houses and a temple mutt on OMR on Tuesday.

In the first incident, the house of Krishnan (70) and Amsa (60) of Perumalkoil Street in Siruseri, both wholesale vegetable dealers, was broken open and 20 sovereigns and Rs 60,000 burgled. The burglary came to light on Tuesday morning when they checked the rice pot which held the valuables.

Similarly, burglars broke open another house on the same street. The owner, Sudarshan, an IT employee, had gone another house he owns in T Nagar with his wife. As there were no valuables, the burglars broke items in the kitchen and living room before escaping from the spot. The Thalambur police have registered a case and investigation is on.

In another incident, intruders broke into the Sri Ponambalam Adigal Sammigal mutt in Tiruporur and looted the hundi along with half kg silver items. A case has been registered and investigation to identify the suspects is on.

Meanwhile, the Vepery police have arrested one of the snatching duo, who had attacked a car driver and escaped with his mobile phone in broad daylight. The accused was identified as Dinesh (25) of Vyasarpadi. The police said that he was a daily wage labourer and indulged in robberies to make a quick buck. With the help of CCTV footage, he was secured and a stolen phone was seized from him. A hunt has been launched for his accomplice. Dinesh was remanded in judicial custody.
