When the plea moved by social activist Traffic KR Ramaswamy came up for hearing, the first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said: “The petition appears to be targeted against a solitary individual and some additional implement used in the vehicle by such person. The matter is trivial and hardly of any relevance or importance. As such, since no great public interest is involved, the petition is not entertained.”

However, it added, it would be open to the petitioner to pursue the representation in accordance with law.

Ramaswamy had moved the plea seeking a writ of mandamus directing all the seven respondents in the case, including Chief Secretary, Transport Secretary, Commissioner of Police, and the District Collectors of Chennai and Cuddalore to take necessary action on his representation submitted on December 21.

It may be noted that following a direction by another bench, the TN government had asked the Public Works department to remove bull bars on vehicles belonging to VVIPs and VIPs.
