The deceased was identified as M Sivakumar (22), a native of Guduvanchery and a second-year student of hotel management at ITI Guindy. Police suspect that it was a murder as body of the victim had stab marks on the neck and chest.

According to police sources, the victim went missing and his classmates and hostel mates thought he might have gone home to visit his parents. His father believed that his son was in the hostel and busy with the projects.

The body was found inside the campus between the bushes after the foul smell started emanating from it, police noted. His father Muthulingam is a daily wage worker in Guduvanchery in Kancheepuram.

Although the body was found in a slushy place filled with alcohol bottles, police are not sure if he was killed there or the body was dragged to the spot. “We are investigating if he was killed in a drunken brawl while consuming alcohol with friends. We are waiting the autopsy report,” said the police.
