According to a Chennai Corporation press release, five tricycles were given by the bank at an event held in Ripon Building on Wednesday.“The vehicles can be pedalled if the need arises. All the five tricycles have been given to Royapuram zone. The civic body had already received 22 battery-operated tricycles from corporate firms, and they were deployed in different zones,” the release said. So far, the civic body has already deployed more than 400 battery-operated tricycles that were procured using the Swachh Bharat Mission fund.

The Corporation introduced battery-operated tricycles to replace conventional tricycles to ensure 100 per cent door-to-door garbage collection and to reduce conservancy workers’ labour. “This will also increase source segregation at the household level,” the official added.
