Bedi instructs officials to give facelift to water body

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today directed civic authorities to clean and restore Velrampet lake during her visit to the water body.

Bedi told officials that the lake, one of the few major water bodies in Puducherry, should be cleaned and maintenance work taken up routinely by departments concerned.

Director General of Police Sunil Kumar Gautam, Secretary to Lt Governor Theva Needhi Dhas, Commissioner of Municipality R Chandrasekar and the local legislator A Baskar who were present during the Lt Governor's visit, explained to her the various modes through which the lake could be reclaimed.

NSS Volunteers were pressed into service to clear the garbage and other domestic waste dumped into the lake, which was earlier sought to be developed into a major tourist spot with boating facilities.
