Auto driver robbed by 2 couples: Wives held, spouses on run

Puzhal police on Saturday arrested two women and launched a hunt for their husbands after they assaulted an auto driver and hijacked his auto. The couples had hired an auto under the guise of passengers from Tondiarpet, assaulted the driver, snatched his valuables and hijacked the auto.

Police arrested Subha (20), wife of Shankar, a resident of Wimco Nagar, Tiruvottiyur and Suganthi (22), wife of Selvam, a resident of Aathipattu, after the Puzhal police alerted their counterparts in Chennai and Tiruvallur about the incident. Auto driver Jyothi Lingam had lodged a complaint. 

Police said two couples got into the auto around 10.45 pm near Power House at Tondiarpet. The group then asked Lingam to stop the vehicle, robbed him at knife point, pushed him out and fled with the auto.

The Minjur police team intercepted the auto near Krishnakulam. However, the men managed to escape. 

Meanwhile, after receiving information, a Puzhal police team rushed to Minjur, arrested the women and seized the vehicle.
