Ahead of VOC’s birth anniversary, which falls on Monday, local residents were refurbishing his statue. When the work was going on, some policemen questioned the local residents about the sudden interest in the statue. When the members explained that the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter falls on Monday and they were cleaning the statue to celebrate it, the police said they were doing it without permission.

Without paying heed to the residents’ plea the Inspector ordered his men to remove the statue. When the policemen tried to remove the statue, the residents protested vehemently and staged a road roko.
